Indianapolis’ historic Woodruff Place is a charming enclave created in 1876 as part of the “city beautiful movement.” The park-like setting includes esplanades with fountains and statuary and lovely Victorian-era houses. Owners take special pride in their historic homes, paying extra attention to upkeep so they are preserved for the enjoyment of future generations.
In one such home, years of harsh Indianapolis winters and general wear caused peeling paint and deteriorating shake siding, detracting from the façade’s appearance. The homeowner turned to JD Hostetter & Associates to repaint the exterior.
A Customized Painting Approach for a Historic Woodruff Place Home
After meeting with the clients, we determined that their primary need was a fresh coat of paint. We had multiple conversations with them to ensure they were satisfied with the paint colors and the budget, as well as our timeline, which was crafted to ensure that we didn’t interfere with their vacation or disrupt their personal life.
Once we began a more in-depth examination of the home, we found rotted shake siding that needed to be replaced and some windows that needed sanding, as they were no longer opening properly. Because the home is a historic one, the replacement siding had to match the specific style that was already on the home. We were able to locate the correct cedar shake style, as well as matching hinges to replace the worn ones on the storm doors.
